Mahmood Hai, MD
Dr. Mahmood Hai was born in Patna, India and completed his early education at the Jesuit run St. Xavier’s High School. He earned his medical degree with distinction in Anatomy and Surgery from the Prince of Wales Medical College in 1969. In 1973 he completed his Master in Surgery (M.S.) degree from Patna University and proceeded to USA to complete his surgical residency in Boston and urology residency in Detroit.
Dr. Hai has been practicing urology for over forty years. He is a leading expert in the field of prostate diseases. He is internationally known for his pioneer work with the Green Light laser. He has been a visiting professor at many universities in North and South America, Europe, Middle East, Asia and Australia. He has trained urologists around the globe. Dr. Hai has been called upon to perform laser surgery on various diplomats, celebrities and world leaders.
Dr. Hai has a long list of publications and awards including: A fellowship from the International College of Surgeons and the Association of Surgeons of India, the Dr. Edwin L. Thirby award for the best presentation at the American Urological Association annual meeting, and the ‘Distinguished Award for Philanthropy’ by the Institute for Social Policy and Understanding, a Washington-based think-tank.
He is a founder and trustee of Michigan Educational Council, the Surgical Institute of Michigan, the Interfaith Community Outreach and the Hai Medical Research Institute.
He has variously served on the advisory board of Boston Scientific Corporation, American Medical Systems, Bayer Pharmaceutical, Storz corporation and Endo Pharma. He serves on the board of Unity Productions Foundation and on an advisory board affiliated with the Lilley School of Philanthropy, Indiana University.
Currently Dr. Hai is the President and Executive Director of the Surgical Institute of Michigan. In addition, he is actively involved in service to the community at large. His book WISDOM COMES was recently published as a primer for those who seek success and contentment in their professional and personal life.
