Opioid Therapy and Pain Management

Being able to identify the proper pain management options is important, whether they are non-pharmacologic or pharmacologic. This course will help with identifying a proper pain assessment and the risk factors that could lead to opioid abuse. Best practices to reduce the risks with prescribing opioid analgesics. Understanding and explaining today's guidelines for pain management and opioid addiction. Being able to recognize and treat drug seeking patients.

Learning Objectives

1. Recognize options for pain management including non-pharmacologic and pharmacologic approaches
2. Identify appropriate pain assessment and potential risk factors for abuse and opioid use disorder/addiction
3. Apply best practices to reduce the risks associated with prescription of opioid analgesics
4. Summarize counseling strategies including about the use of naloxone for opioid overdose
5. Present the current guidelines for pain management and opioid addiction
6. Recognize how to treat drug seeking patients
